FAQ'S

  • Do you offer counselling for couples, families or children?
I only offer counselling to individuals over the age of 16yrs.

  • Do I need a referral?
No referral is necessary. Simply go to the Contact page and reach out via phone, text or email. Before we go ahead with a booking I will arrange to have a brief chat with you about your needs.

Do you accept a Mental Health Care Plan from my GP? Counsellors are not eligible for Medicare rebates, and therefore can't accept a MHCP.  But you don't need a MHCP or a referral to see a counsellor, and we can liaise with your GP at your request.

  • Are sessions eligible for private health insurance claims? Crooked Mile Counselling is not covered by private health insurance and cannot offer rebates.

  • What is a Lived Experience Counsellor?
Counsellors are traditionally trained to not reveal much, or anything, about ourselves, but Lived Experience Counsellors actively share relevant experiences with clients. This can help reduce stigma and feelings such as isolation or shame.

  • Does that mean you'll talk about yourself all the time?
Definitely not.  You are the focus in the counselling session. Sharing small bits of my lived experience in relevant areas can help some people feel less judged or less alone with their problems, but the focus in counselling is always you.

  • Does it mean I have to do it your way then?
Not at all! You are the expert in what works for your life. I collaborate with you to explore what you want from counselling, and together we workshop ways that best suit you to achieve that, using a wide range of counselling approaches and techniques.

  • Why do your prices start so low?
Many people experience long wait times to access therapy from a psychologist or social worker through a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP, and even with a MHCP they may have to pay out-of-pocket expenses if the therapist doesn't bulk bill.  I chose to keep my prices as affordable as I could for people who are on low incomes, so that people could access counselling when they really needed it without sacrificing quality.

  • What are your qualifications?
I hold a Bachelor of Applied Science, a Graduate Diploma of Counselling, and a Master of Mental Health Practice.
